This festival is a reenactment of the 1575 battle of Nagashino and Shitaragahara where a large number of firearms were used for the first time in Japan. On the battlefield stand wooden defensive fences that were built to stop the Takeda Clan's cavalry, which was greatly feared as the strongest of all cavalries in Japan at the time. It is said that the teppotai rifle corps stood behind these fences with matchlocks and shot at the oncoming cavalry. At the festival, children clad in handmade armor pretend to be warriors and courageously reenact the battle scene. You can also get priceless experiences by trying on Sengoku warlord costumes, blowing a war horn made out of a triton shell, and more.
